Yazd as Iran’s ICT Pole

This province is located in the center of the Iranian Plateau on the borders of the central desert. Neighboring the provinces of Kerman and Fars to the south and south-west, Esfahan to the north and west and Khorassan to the north-east, this province is situated just over 1,215 meters above sea level, occupying an area of 72,342 kilometers. Marco Polo the first traveler who visited Yazd described it as a prosperous city with intelligent, industrious and talented people.
Yazd in the past has been known for its Textile industries, which almost played the major role in the local and national economy. But within the last decades the textile industries have weakened and other branches have grown up and widespread, so that nowadays industry, Truism, Educations and ICT have proven their role as the four main base of development of Yazd, according to officials road map.
ICT in Yazd is working through different aspects. In Yazd province, 28 universities are active in which more 900 ICT students are annually accepted.
More than 70 big and small companies are developing softwares for web applications, windows applications and mobile applications. Technologies such as J2EE, .NET, Open Source, Ajax and others are well known among them.
About 35 companies provide engineering and technical services and support such as maintenances, communication network installation and others, to local and neighboring provinces, for private sectors and governmental organizations.
During the past 10 years, Yazd has grown up an ICT company that nowadays is one of the three top National company active in ICT, with extending its international presence.
Yazd ICT Guild Organization was established in this atmosphere, and its presence helped regulating ICT business among private sector and officials. Now the organization has about 545 active members, and Head of its board ,Mr. Eng. Ghomi, is the vice president of Iranian ICT Guild Organization.
Beside Yazd ICT Guild Organization, there is Yazd Science and Technology Park which now after about 10 years of work have a major role in province economy and is extending ICT, Nano, BT, IT , science based companies due to a very close cooperation with the local universities. Handful incubations opened in different subjects in most cities. Every year an National “Best Idea Festival” is organized, which welcome any new idea and award them.
Yazd Research and Technology funds, was a “must”, which road map planer tried and finally opened about 4 years ago and many companies have used its low rate financial supports.
Within last 2 years, most business men have reached to this conclusions that potentials in ICT have enriches to be marketed oversea, so planed presence in foreign exhibitions enforced, and the result was taking part in Syria, Iraq,Tajikistan, Algeria ,GITEX and finally CeBIT.
